It all started when…

When Zoran Gligorijevic changed careers and began his new job as a Ritchies bus driver he wasn’t completely sure he would like it.

15 months on, he’s more than happy with the move he made. Passengers on his Metro Canterbury runs are certainly glad as well - so many of them have written into Environment Canterbury Zoran has just been awarded as their Driver of the Quarter – with a certificate and small token of gratitude.

Zoran says he takes his inspiration from the passengers and also the team around him at the Ferry Road depot. “I’m definitely enjoying it more than I thought. It was new, and now I found out that it’s enjoyable.”

Metro Canterbury posted about his achievements on their Facebook page – “we had the delight of presenting a recognition award to a wonderfully kind and humble driver,” ECAN said.

They quoted one of the many compliments he’s received.

“He was amazing,” wrote passenger Louise. “Such a lovely man. Greeted every passenger with warmth and sincerity.”

“The atmosphere on the bus was peaceful and friendly, and I firmly believe it was all to do with the driver. I was almost sad to have to end my journey with him, but he farewelled me, and everyone else with a smile and a friendly comment.”

Serbian-born Zoran is qualified mechanic engineer and made the move to his new profession after years working in manufacturing.

He gets a lot of pleasure from the job and says bus driving is definitely a role he’d recommend to others.
